Centre-left movement chooses name for European Parliament elections
A new centre-left movement, known as the “58” or the “Greek Olive Tree,” is to stand at May’s European Parliament elections as the Progressive Democratic Party.
It was announced on Monday that the party would come under the umbrella of the Party of European Socialists (PES) in the European Parliament.
It is thought that former Interior Minister Tassos Giannitsis will head the list of candidates to stand for election in May.
The social democratic movement is set to cooperate with PASOK at the polls but Democratic Left has so far rejected any alliance.
