Reports that Greek ex-minister Liapis failed to pay taxes to be probed

Authorities in Karpenisi, central Greece, will investigate allegations that emerged in the Greek press on Sunday that former Transport and Culture Minister Michalis Liapis provided false information about the size of his holiday home in the area in order to dodge taxes.

Liapis, who in December received a four-year suspended prison sentence for driving a car with forged license plates, has also been accused of using European Union funds to renovate the property.

His family has rejected the allegations.

Meanwhile, reports on Monday said the former New Democracy MP had crossed the Greek border into Bulgaria.
