Vodafone eyes having a say at Forthnet

Vodafone’s head in Greece, Glafkos Persianis, confirmed to Kathimerini on Thursday that the mobile telecommunications company acquired a stake in triple-play provider Forthnet because it wanted to have a seat at the table to discuss the future of Forthnet, the dominant local player in pay TV and a leading telecom supplier.

Persianis stopped short of expressing Vodafone’s objectives at Forthnet, but noted that his company’s strategy both in Greece and abroad is for integrated services in the broad sense.

Vodafone is believed to have spent about 20 million euros on the acquisition of a 6.54 percent stake in Forthnet during its share capital increase last month. Persianis said the move had the blessing of the British parent company, the Vodafone Group.
