Anarchist linked to guerrilla group given time to prepare defense
Anarchist Costas Sakkas, who was granted conditional release in July after going on hunger strike to protest the fact that he had been held in detention for two-and-a-half years, faced a prosecutor on Friday following his arrest by members of Greece’s anti-terrorist squad.
A warrant was issued for the 30-year-old’s arrest on Thursday after fingerprints matching his were found at one of the safe houses used by the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire urban guerrilla group, in Halandri, northeastern Athens.
Sakkas was given an extension until Tuesday to prepare his defense and reappear before the prosecutor.
