Prosecutors to face disciplinary action over Xeros furloughs
The two public prosecutors who sat on the councils that granted prison furloughs to November 17 member Christodoulos Xeros are to face disciplinary action.
The decision was taken by the Supreme Court, which studied over the weekend the results of a probe conducted by Piraeus prosecutor Evangelos Zacharis.
Both prosecutors have been accused of gross negligence. The probe found that Xeros was given lenient treatment despite the fact that he had not expressed remorse for his actions and had set his cell at Korydallos Prison on fire.
Xeros disappeared while on a nine-day leave earlier this month and has since vowed to return to terrorism.
He had been serving six life sentences but was given his first furlough in 2011. He was granted furlough another six times after that.
