Olympiakos die-hards get their spot for Man.Utd match
UEFA has practically softened the penalty on Olympiakos for the allegedly racist behavior of some of its supporters in a group game of the Champions League, allowing for the terrace of the hardcore fans to open fully for the game with Manchester United next month.
The appeal Olympiakos made to the original UEFA disciplinary decision resulted on Monday in the full opening of Gate 7 for the February 25 fixture with the Red Devils for the Round of 16 of Europe’s top club competition.
Nevertheless parts of Gates 3 and 4 will remain closed, meaning some 2,000 seats will still be empty.
Olympiakos argued that it would be hard to ensure the 2,000 seats at the block of its hardcore fans would remain empty, so it asked for the empty seats to be moved to Gates 3 and 4.
UEFA had found Olympiakos guilty of racist behavior of its fans during the Champions League game against Anderlecht in December. The ban concerned an allegedly racist banner.
Meanwhile for the Greek league on Monday Panetolikos won 1-0 at Ergotelis on Crete to return to the sixth spot of the Super League table.
