Bourse stages recovery after days of losses

The Greek bourse posted a major rebound on Thursday after four days of losses, although its gains were somewhat contained toward the end of the session. It remains to be seen whether that recovery was technical or could signal a return to the rising course of the previous weeks.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,155.81 points, adding 2.62 percent to Wednesday’s 1,126.35 points. During the day it had even risen by up to 4 percent. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded 2.67 percent to 380.01 points.

All blue chips headed northward, led by National Bank (up 5.38 percent) and Hellenic Exchanges (4.77 percent)

In total 106 stock posted gains, 34 showed losses and 16 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 81.7 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 83.9 million.
