Health minister heckled during Athens hospital visit
Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis was jeered and heckled by employees of the Thriassio Hospital, western Athens, on Friday, who were protesting government cutbacks in the health sector that have been imposed as part of an ongoing austerity drive.
A group of the workers had gathered outside the entrance to the hospital when Georgiadis arrived in the morning for an inspection. The angry crowd prevented the minister from entering the hospital for a while but tensions subsided after he listened to the workers’ grievances
Georgiadis told reporters later that the «Health Ministry is here to look after the hospitals despite the constant protests by certain employees.”
