EU report indicates 99 pct of Greeks believe corruption is widespread

Almost all Greeks believe that corruption is widespread in their country, according to a report compiled by the European Commission.

Relying on figures from the Eurobarometer surveys, the report indicates that 99 percent of Greeks thins that graft is widespread. This is the highest figure in the European Union, where the average is 76 percent.

In Greece, 63 percent of residents say they are personally affected by corruption, which is equal highest with Spain.

Across the EU, 73 percent of respondents said that bribery and the use of connections is the easiest way of obtaining public services. In Greece, the figure is 93 percent.

Also, 67 percent of Europeans feel the financing of political parties is not transparent enough. In Greece, it is 86 percent that believes this.
