Prosecutor asks Parliament to lift ND lawmaker’s immunity
A prosecutor has asked Parliament to consider lifting immunity for New Democracy deputy Gerasimos Giakoumatos in order to investigate whether charges should be brought against the conservative MP in connection to the operations of a family business, a retirement home located in the northern Athens suburb of Neo Psychico.
The deputy’s wife, who is the home’s president, and his brother, who is acting as managing director, have been arrested on suspicion of tax offences.
Giakoumatos has denied any financial involvement in the business.
