Costas Bakoyannis to run for the governorship of Central Greece
Costas Bakoyannis, the mayor of Karpenisi and son of New Democracy MP Dora Bakoyannis, announced on Wednesday that he will stand as a candidate for the governorship of Central Greece in May’s local elections.
The 35-year-old said that he would seek to run as an independent candidate and draw the backing of more than one party.
“In local governance, there is no room for parties and their ulterior motives,” he said.
Bakoyannis’s late father, Pavlos, who was murdered by the November 17 terrorist group in 1989, was also a New Democracy MP.
Costas Bakoyannis’s grandfather, Constantine Mitsotakis, was New Democracy leader and prime minister.
His uncle, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is administrative reform minister.
