Banks and OPAP save the day at the Greek bourse
The majority of Greek stocks went up, down, and eventually back up again during Thursday’s session, as traders cashed in morning gains before buyers returned to seal a sixth consecutive day of gains at the Athens bourse on Athinon Avenue. Bank stocks and OPAP took the credit for the benchmark closing in the green on a day of high volatility.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,250.07 points, adding 0.80 percent to Wednesday’s 1,240.11 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded 1.09 percent to 408.04 points.
Banks rose 3.29 percent, with National growing by 4.30 percent and Piraeus climbing 3.24 percent, while OPAP added 3.32 percent. Intralot fell 1.42 percent and GEK Terna declined by 1.41 percent.
In total 68 stocks posted gains, 67 suffered losses and 26 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to 101.4 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 127.7 million.
