SYRIZA ahead of New Democracy in new poll

A new opinion poll published on Wednesday showed leftist opposition SYRIZA ahead of conservative New Democracy by 1.5 percent.

Carried out by Public Issue for the Efymerida ton Syntakton daily, the survey showed SYRIZA leading with 30 percent trailed by New Democracy who stood at 28.5 percent. A previous Public Poll issue conducted in January showed SYRIZA standing at 31.5 percent and New Democracy at 28 percent.

The new poll showed Golden Dawn taking third place with 8.5 percent (compared to 10 percent in the previous survey), the Greek Communist Party (KKE) standing at 7.5 percent (compared to 6.5 percent), socialist PASOK earning 7 percent (compared to 6.5 percent), Independent Greeks standing at 6 percent (compared to 4.5 percent) and Democratic Left maintaining its previous score, 3.5 percent.

The poll also showed that 55 percent of respondents believe SYRIZA will win the elections, compared to 31 percent who think the winner will be New Democracy.
