Greek farmers to meet with FinMin over tax grievances

A delegation representing farmers, who have been organizing protests on national highways over the past two weeks in protest at the government's taxation plans for their sector, was to meet on Thursday with Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras in a bid to break the deadlock.

The committee has organized dozens of tractor convoys across Greece and has said that farmers will proceed with road blockades unless their demands are met.

The meeting with Stournaras was scheduled for 12.45 p.m. Farmers are expected to broach their grievances over the government's new proposed taxation status for them as well as their problems with pending debts.

Farmers have planned a protest at the Rio toll stations on the Patras-Corinth national highway at noon and are expected to decide on the form of their future action depending on the outcome of talks with Stournaras.
