Nine to face charges of fraud over NGO’s de-mining program

Nine people, including three members of the diplomatic service, are to face charges of colluding to defraud the Greek state in connection with a de-mining program.

The nine suspects also include the president of a non-governmental organization, his wife, three civil servants and a former civil servant.

The NGO is alleged to have breached rules between 2000 and 2004, when it received state funding for de-mining operations in Bosnia, Lebanon and Iraq.

The suspects are to be charged with obtaining nine million euros of taxpayers’ money illegally.
