Missing yacht found off Sounio but no sign of skipper

A coast guard team on Monday discovered the Dutch-flagged yacht Ziesjoem, which has been missing since January 28, off the coast of Sounio on the southermost tip of the Attica peninsula.

The captain of the craft, who was reportedly the only passenger, remains missing as divers were not able to find any trace of him near or inside the vessel, which sank off the coast of the islet of Patroklos.

The 27-year-old skipper had set sail on January 28 from Alimos Marina on the southern coast of Athens.

He later reported that he had suffered engine failure, but told authorities that he would continue his trip using his sails only.
