Greek businessman sentenced to 6.5 years for tax evasion

A 58-year-old businessman owing a total of 11.9 million euros in debts to the state faced a prosecutor on Tuesday following his arrest last Friday in Papagou, northern Athens, police said.

The unnamed man has been convicted twice – for tax evasion and violating labor laws – and has been sentenced to a total of six-and-a-half years in jail, according to a police statement.
