Bourse trading volume stays low, investors seek direction

The benchmark continued to drift without direction on Tuesday at the Athens bourse, with stocks presenting a mixed picture on low trading volume, as a wait-and-see attitude continued to prevail among investors.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,274.94 points, shedding 0.15 percent from Monday’s 1,276.82 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 contracted 0.28 percent to 414.83 points but mid-caps posted a rise of 1.26 percent.

Intralot grabbed the headlines among blue chips, adding 2.83 percent, while Hellenic Petroleum expanded 1.84 percent. Jumbo gave up 3.97 percent and Ellaktor declined by 1.63 percent.

In total 78 stocks registered gains, 66 sustained losses and 24 remained unchanged.

Turnover stayed below 100 million euros for the eighth session in a row. It amounted to 65 million euros, up from Monday’s 51.2 million.
