EOPYY doctors to choose camp
Doctors working for the country’s biggest health provider, the National Organization for Healthcare Provision (EOPYY), were expected to decide by Thursday whether or not they would register with the new Primary National Healthcare Network (PEDY), following a major overhaul of the country’s health system. EOPYY doctors are called to choose between the new network and their private practices.
Doctors who do not wish to register with PEDY were expeected to sign agreements with EOPYY in order to treat those insured with PEDY at their private practices.
Doctors who apply with PEDY but fail to present themselves for duty were expected to be barred from working with EOPYY, said Health Minister Adonis Georgiades, who added that 1,389 applications for PEDY had been registered by last Friday.
The overhaul includes the closure of EOPYY’s polyclinics and the placement of their staff in a civil service mobility scheme. A total of 8,691 doctors and employees from all of EOPYY’s services and about 1,200 hospital staff are to be inducted in the mobility scheme.
The ministry plans to shut down the system for a month in order to carry out the transition of EOPYY into PEDY.
