Committee of Greek MPs to investigate WWII claims

Parliament agreed on Thursday to form a 19-member committee to examine whether there are any grounds for Greece to demand Second World War reparations from Germany.

The House approved the formation of the committee after a request by SYRIZA MP Manolis Glezos, a WWII hero.

An official figure for what Germany may owe Greece has not been produced but reports have suggested that the amount could reach as high as 160 billion euros, based on reparations for damage to infrastructure and the repayment of a loan the Bank of Greece was forced to grant the Nazi regime.
