Arta teacher gets suspended prison term for inciting pupils to hit peer

A court in Arta, northwestern Greece, on Friday passed down a two-year suspended prison sentence to a local teacher accused of inciting some of his pupils to hit an eight-year-old peer.

The teacher has been temporarily suspended from his post on orders from the Education Ministry.

According to the parents of the eight-year-old boy, the teacher instructed a group of pupils to restrain him after he tried to leave class before the school bell rang. The teacher claimed not to have given any such order, claiming that the boy was hurt following a dispute with his fellow pupils.
