Cattle farmers to protest pasteurized milk reforms

Cattle farmers from across Greece were expected to participate in a rally on Kanningos Square, in central in Athens on Wednesday, as a means of protest at the coalition government’s planned reforms in the pasteurized milk sector.

Following recommendations from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Ministry of Development is proposing the removal of the word “fresh” from pasteurized milk packaging and the abolition of the five-day standard, with each producer allowed to determine the precise expiry date depending on the method of pasteurization used.

Cattle farmers were expected to meet with officials at the Ministry of Agriculture on the same day.
