Three in 10 pupils subjected to bullying, survey says

Three in 10 school pupils in Greece have been bullied, mostly due to their origins, according to a survey carried out by the Ministry of Education’s Observatory for School Violence and Bullying.

The poll of 61,000 pupils found that 33 percent of those who were bullied were targeted because of where they came from, 19 percent because they belonged to a different group of students, 11 percent because they belonged to a minority and 4 percent because of their sex.

Just over half of the instances of bullying took place in the schoolyard and 9 percent in classrooms. Nearly half of the respondents said they want their principals and teachers to take a stricter approach to bullying.
