SDOE warns Rhodes business owners over phoney inspectors

The Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE) on Thursday issued a warning to business owners on the southeastern Aegean island of Rhodes urging them to be vigilant if approached by people posing as tax inspectors.

The warning came in the wake of reports over the past few days from the island of individuals posing as a tax inspectors asking to see businesses’ books.

“Inspections are carried out by at least two people who are required to display their service identity cards as well as the order for the audit,” the South Aegean Directorate of SDOE said in its statement.

In the case that a business owner is approached by a person or persons who do not have the required credentials, they should alert the authorities, SDOE added.

It is believed that the person or persons running the scam were trying to extort money from business owners.
