Trainose is set to expand its cargo services even further following the success of its Athens-Thessaloniki route by launching a second daily service on that line and planning routes to Skopje and Belgrade twice a week.
After Hewlett Packard and Procter & Gamble, Danish maritime transport giant Moller-Maersk is following the model introduced by Cosco for offloading containers at the Chinese company’s docks in Piraeus and loading them onto the train to Thessaloniki.
It is interest from such large firms that has prompted Trainose’s decision.
Trainose is also set to activate a route from Thessaloniki to Orestiada on the Greek-Turkish border in response to the interest expressed by Turkey’s biggest transit company. Ekol reportedly intends to forward its cargo via the Greek railway network and into the Balkans and Central Europe. The chairman and chief executive of Trainose, Athanasios Ziliaskopoulos, told Kathimerini that a border entry point for cargo from Turkey is already being created at Pythio, near the Evros River.
