Amid courtroom tension, Golden Dawn members’ trial postponed

Tensions rose in an Athens courtroom on Wednesday during a hearing regarding an attack allegedly carried out by a group of Golden Dawn members in Kato Petralona, in central Athens, in June 2008.

According to the case file, the incident occurred at the Antipnoia venue when members of the ultranationalist party allegedly stabbed a Greek and a Spanish national.

The defendants, Vassilis Siatounis, who ran with Golden Dawn in the previous local elections for the City of Athens, and Athanasios Stratos, refused to appear in the courtroom fearing the reaction of those who had gathered to follow the trial’s proceedings.

Following a motion by the defendants’ legal teams a new trial was set for September 19.
