Stocks end week of growth with daily decline

March’s triple witching Friday saw the majority of shares hit by considerable losses on the highest turnover in the last four months.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,330.69 points, shedding 2.39 percent from Thursday’s 1,363.30 points, although it added 0.89 percent on a weekly basis. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 contracted 2.67 percent to 428 points.

Most blue chips headed south, with Ellaktor losing 6.34 percent, Hellenic Exchanges falling 6.32 percent and OPAP giving up 6.04 percent. Titan Cement climbed 4.67 percent.

In total, 47 stocks posted gains, 96 registered losses and 18 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 246.5 million euros, more than three times Thursday’s 81.6 million.
