Responsibilities in education
The responsibility that the Greek Education Ministry bears for a number of irregularities and distortions that are plaguing the country’s secondary and higher education systems is gradually coming to light. And this at a time when the Greek education system needs to adjust to the current demands.
The triennial PISA survey developed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) aims to determine the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old school pupils. According to the OECD, 70 countries have participated in the assessment to date.
Unfortunately, the performance of Greek students has ranged from average to poor since 2000, a fact that does not appear to ring any alarm bells at the ministry.
Perhaps that is why this year the ministry tried to disregard the competition altogether, in an effort to shirk its own responsibilities. Unless it’s actually in a state of complete disintegration.
