Flu deaths reach 111

The number of people who have died from the flu since the beginning of the year rose to 111 on Wednesday, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO).

The organization noted that while the number of people contracting the flu virus had been falling since early March, 98 percent of those who had succumbed to the virus had not been vaccinated. Forty-two people remained in intensive care units across the country.

KEELPNO noted that the virus had been highly persistent this year and had been particularly threatening to people with underlying health illnesses that rendered them vulnerable to further complications from the flu.
