Attica pharmacists call off strike over liberalization measures

Pharmacists in Attica will end their strike on Tuesday despite measures liberalizing their sector passing through Parliament on Sunday night.

The pharmacists launched an open-ended strike last week in opposition to the measures, which will make it easier for pharmacies to open. This led to just 50 pharmacies in Attica being open, which in turn prompted long queues of customers who needed to buy medicines.

Despite calling off the strike, Attica pharmacists will take part in a work stoppage between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday to take part in a protest organized by unionists to coincide with the hosting of the Eurogroup in Athens.

The Panhellenic Pharmacists’ Association was due to meet later on Monday to decide whether to call off the strike in other parts of Greece. Earlier, its president, Kyriakos Theodosiadis, announced that he was resigning as a member of New Democracy.
