Help at Home carers protest unpaid wages

Carers who work for the Help at Home program donned chains and taped their mouths shut during a protest in central Athens on Thursday.

They were protesting the fact they had not been paid for seven months.

The Help at Home program, which is run by local authorities, provides assistance to an estimated 70,000 chronically ill, disabled and elderly people around the country.

The carers were on strike on Thursday and will not go to work on Friday either.

They said talks with Labor Ministry officials on Thursday proved fruitless.
