Supreme Court prosecutor Efterpi Koutzamani ordered Greece’s prosecutors to initiate proceedings for the immediate arrest of anyone who makes public illegally obtained footage.
The instructions issued on Monday come in the wake of Golden Dawn uploading onto a Russian website last week a video of ex-cabinet secretary Panayiotis Baltakos and the Neo-Nazi party’s spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris speaking during a private meeting.
Koutzamini’s instructions were communicated to the first instance prosecutor’s office in Athens amid claims from Golden Dawn that it is planning to make public more videos. Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias had earlier written to Koutzamani to ask for her to looking the extremist party’s allegations.
She also asked for the investigation into the video released last week to be speeded up.
Prosecutor Calliope Dagianta questioned Baltakos on Tuesday but this was moved forward a day. Dagianta is conducting an urgent investigation into whether Kasidiaris broke privacy laws by filming the video and then making it public.
It is expected that Parliament will debate the matter this week, following a request from SYRIZA for a discussion about Baltakos and his role in the government.
