Fewer cars left capital for Easter weekend
There was a marked reduction in the number of people leaving Athens on Good Friday and Easter Saturday this year compared to 2013, according to statistics provided by the traffic police.
A total of 382,859 cars passed the Athens-Corinth highway tolls on the two days, which was 3.1 percent lower than last year.
On the Athens-Lamia highway, a total of 304,478 cars were recorded leaving the capital. This was almost 17 percent down on last year.
Overall, there were few problems on the roads apart from roadworks at the entrance to Lamia, central Greece, restricting traffic to one lane and causing long tailbacks for cars heading north from Athens.
