Prosecutors asks House to lift Kasidiaris’s immunity over Baltakos video

First instance prosecutor Calliope Dagianta asked Parliament on Friday to lift the immunity of Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris so he can face charges of breaching the privacy of former cabinet secretary Panayiotis Baltakos by recording a conversation between the two men.

The offense is considered a felony and carries a stiff prison sentence.

Baltakos told Dagianta that his meeting with Kasidiaris, which took place in Parliament, was not secret. He also claims that his criticism of Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and other ministers during the talks with Kasidiaris was part of an effort to glean information from the Golden Dawn MP.

The case file will now go to Parliament’s transparency committee. After a vote there, it will be put to the plenary. However, this is unlikely to take place before the local and European Parliament elections later this month as the House will be in recess from the end of next week.
