Olympiakos completes double in men’s volleyball

Olympiakos completed the double in Greek volleyball for the second year in succession, as on Saturday it added the league to its triumph in the cup earlier this season.

The Reds swept Ethnikos Alexandroupolis 3-0 in the best-of-five final series, as after the two 3-2 victories at home on Monday and Tuesday, they saw off the Thrace club with a 3-0 score (26-24, 31-29, 25-16) at Alexandroupoli on Saturday.

Coached by Dimitris Kazazis and with Bulgarian Boyan Yordanov as its best player for one more season, Olympiakos celebrated its 27th league title and the fifth in the last six years.

For Ethnikos it was the best moment in its history as it appeared in a league final for the first time ever, and signaled the end of a generation of its players as key figures such as Grigoris Sidiropoulos and Giorgos Papazoglou have played the last game of their career.
