Court rejects Turkish appeal to extradite DHKP-C suspect

A Thessaloniki court on Thursday rejected an appeal by Turkish authorities for the extradition of Mehmet Yayla, an alleged member of the outlawed leftist Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C) who was arrested in the northern port in January on an Interpol warrant.

Thessaloniki’s Council of Appeals Court Judges rejected Ankara’s appeal for Yayla’s return to Turkey after he claimed he was sick and that his life would be at risk if he is extradited to his homeland.

Last month, the same court rejected another appeal by Ankara for the extradition of Kadir Kaya, also alleged to be a member of DHKP-C.
