Greek police report notable drop in Q1 crime

Crime rates dropped in the first quarter of the year with homicides down by more than a third compared to the same period in 2013, according to official police statistics made public on Wednesday.

There were 33 cases of manslaughter recorded in the first four months of this year, a drop of 35 percent compared to the 51 recorded last year.

Robberies were also down with 2,984 recorded from January through April, a 20 percent drop from the same period last year.

The police recorded 23,574 burglaries across Greece, down from 26,558 – a drop of 11 percent – while car thefts were down by 28 percent.
