A 43-year-old man was to face a prosecutor on Thursday in Amaliada, in the Peloponnese, on charges of trading in illegally acquired artifacts after a fragment of an clay sculpture believed to date to the 4th or 3rd century BC was found in his possession.

A raid on the suspect’s home, in the village of Tragano, also turned up a metal detector and 85 firecrackers.
