Exit polls: Greek leftists ahead in local votes
Exit polls immediately following the end of voting in Greece’s local elections show leftist candidates ahead in Greeces capital and biggest region.
In Athens, Gavriil Sakellaridis, a 33-year-old candidate supported by the left opposition SYRIZA party, is practically running neck and neck with left-center incumbent Giorgos Kaminis. Sakellaridis is credited with 20-24 percent of the vote and Kaminis with 19-23 percent.
Conservative candidate Aris Spiliotopoulos is projected getting 15-19 percent and extreme right candidate Ilias Kassidiaris, a Golden Dawn lawmaker facing criminal charges, 14-17 percent.
In the Attica region, Greeces most populous, SYRIZA candidate Rena Dourou is leading socialist incumbent Yannis Sgouros by about 7 percent.
