Bomb threat at Larnaca airport proves a hoax

Police in Cyprus on Tuesday had to evacuate the island’s main airport in Larnaca on the southern coast after receiving an anonymous call that there was a “suspicious package” on the premises, the Associated Press reported, quoting Communications Minister Marios Demetriades as saying.

The airport was evacuated for about one hour as bombs disposal experts scoured the area for explosives, Cyprus Mail said, adding that the all-clear was given about an hour later.

Authorities are on high alert as US Vice President Joe Biden is expected to begin a three-day visit to the divided island on Wednesday.
