Thessaloniki police nab con artists who scammed elderly man

A couple have been arrested in Thessaloniki for allegedly tricking an elderly resident into giving them 70,000 euros.

Police said on Tuesday that the couple, a 25-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, first came into contact with their victim in February 2012.

After befriending the elderly man, they convinced him to provide them with money, supposedly to help sick relatives.

Officers said they even went as far as getting friends to pretend to be the relatives and call up the victim to thank him.

When the man realized he had been duped, he asked for the money back but instead the couple threatened him.
