Double-murder suspect arrested in Kalamata

A 52-year-old man was arrested in Kalamata on Friday on suspicion of being involved in the murder of an Albanian man and his young son outside the Peloponnesian city more than a year ago.

The suspect, who is known to police, is alleged to have ordered the contract killing, which left 35-year-old Filip Mesaj and his 2-year-old son dead.

They were found shot in Mesaj’s car in the area of Thouria.

The suspect is reported to be the brother of a well-known local crime boss who is serving time in Korydallos Prison and is alleged to have been running an extortion ring from there.

According to reports, the suspect handed himself in at a local police precinct.

There are two arrest warrants in his name.
