Greek-Korean deal for export of marine equipment
The signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Greece’s Merchant Marine Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis and South Korean Minister for Trade, Industry and Energy Yoon Sang-jick late last week marks the first step toward Greek marine equipment companies launching exports to Korean shipyards.
The agreement provides for the export of Greek ship equipment materials for the construction of vessels at Korean shipyards and the establishment of contacts between business groups in the sectors of maritime technology and equipment with an emphasis on organizing exhibition and networking events.
“In South Korea nowadays there is one Greek-owned ship delivered every four days. It is therefore important that Greek manufacturers of marine equipment participate in the process of building these ships as well as all the others that don’t belong to Greeks,” stated Varvitsiotis.
This came just a few days after the formation of the Hellenic Marine Equipment Manufacturers & Exporters (HEMEXPO) group.
