This is no vacation

Certain newly appointed cabinet ministers appear to be utterly unwilling to make the kind of decisions that will include an amount of political cost.

While remedying some of the injustices and making an effort to ease the burden on those who have been hardest hit by the ongoing economic crisis – an important target on the new government and ministerial agenda – is one thing, the provocative denial displayed by those who refuse to carry out unpleasant but essential reforms is quite another.

If Prime Minister Antonis Samaras fails to send out the right signal on time, the worrying phenomenon of ministers who believe that their job description is to conduct dialogue, as opposed to making tough decisions, will become an increasing one.

While temperatures may be rising and summertime appears to have truly arrived, any ministers who just wanted to play the tourist and have a smooth ride are in for a rude awakening.
