Security guard detained over stabbing outside former ERT

A private security guard at the headquarters of former public broadcaster ERT was taken in for questioning on Friday after he allegedly stabbed a protesting union member.

The incident took place when members of POSPERT, the union representing ERT employees, were protesting outside the building.

This week marks one year since the government decided to shut down ERT overnight and sack its 2,600 employees, some of whom have been rehired at the new state TV and radio service, NERIT.

The security guard is alleged to have stabbed the unionist in the hand with a sharp implement when an argument broke out at the gates.
