Bogus doctor arrested in Katerini

A 52-year-old man has been detained on charges of allegedly posing as a public sector doctor in the area of Katerini, central Macedonia, in northern Greece.

According to initial police reports, the suspect was arrested for allegedly embezzling 1,250 euros since May this year from 16 unsuspecting citizens by promising them he would intervene in his capacity as a doctor in order to schedule operations and medical tests at public health facilities.

In one instance, authorities believe the suspect asked for money from a private party in order to act as a go-between in connection with the appointment of a relative at a state clinic.
