Greece fans launch Facebook campaign to get ‘Wee Jay’ to Brazil

Fans of the Greek national squad, which made it into the top 16 of the World Cup this week, have launched a Facebook campaign, “O JAY PAEI Mundial,” in a bid to convince the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) to spring for the tickets to get an 11-year-old Scottish fan of team striker Giorgos Samaras to Brazil in time to see Greece square off with Costa Rica on Sunday.

Jay Beatty, a fervent 11-year-old Celtic fan who also suffers from Down’s Syndrome, has managed to meet all the players of his favorite team and its management. He is also an avid fan of Samaras, a former Celtic star who picked up the young boy out of the crowd when Celtic lifted the Scottish Premiership trophy in May.

Jay’s father recently posted a video showing his son dressed in blue and celebrating Greece’s victory over the Ivory Coast.

“It’s not often you see Jay in blue but he had to get a Greece T-shirt,” he comments below the photograph posted on Facebook.

The “O JAY PAEI Mundial” Facebook page has already garnered more than 50,600 “likes.”
