Bourse index stays put as gains evaporate

The Greek bourse ended its slide on Thursday, but only just, as the morning gains evaporated while the benchmark ended virtually unchanged. Concerns over the possibility of a snap election in the fall have returned, while worries about banks’ capital requirements are refusing to go away.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,226.45 points, adding just 0.02 percent to Wednesday’s 1,226.19 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded by 0.03 percent to close at 395.61 points, though mid-caps enjoyed more notable gains of 0.63 percent.

Marfin Investment Group outperformed with a 3.75 percent rise, followed by National Bank (up 2.29 percent). Folli Follie fell 3.39 percent.

In total 68 stocks enjoyed gains, 52 sustained losses and 17 finished unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 104.6 million euros, not even half of Wednesday’s 251.3 million.
