Seven suspects remanded in custody over heroin racket

Seven suspects were jailed pending trial on Friday after being charged in an unfolding international heroin-trafficking probe.

Five Indian crew members of the Noor One Togo-flagged tanker which is believed to have transported the drugs to Greece, a 41-year-old Turk with a Belgian passport, and a 53-year-old Greek who is believed to have been the manager of the ship face charges of running a criminal gang and drug trafficking.

Another seven suspects have already been remanded in custody in connection with the case.

The 14 were arrested earlier this month after authorities traced a ton of heroin to a warehouse in Koropi, eastern Attica, and determined that a Togo-flagged tanker had carried that cache, as well as an additional ton of the drug that was discovered in two different locations earlier this month.
