Investigators find evidence of farming subsidy scams

The Financial Police has submitted evidence to a prosecutor relating to two interconnected cases of suspected subsidy fraud by farmers in separate parts of the country.

The first case concerns five cotton growers in Aitolokarnania, western Greece, who were granted thousands of euros in European Union subsidies on the basis of false claims in the period from 2006-2012.

The investigation into this case led to a similar scam being uncovered in Kilkis, northern Greece, where two seed suppliers are believed to have used false invoices to claim nearly 84,000 euros from the state.
